EducationHello! I'm a recent Champlain College TAP graduate, meaning I am nearly a licensed English teacher (grades 7-12)!
I'm eager to tutor at any capacity. In addition to having a bachelors degree in English and French (St. Michael's College, class of 2011), I also earned a graduate certificate in TESOL, from the same college.
ExperienceIn particular, I studied French language and poetry, English literature with a focus in 20th century British novel, and drawing and painting with acrylic. In the TESOL program, we taught live classes to summer students from all over the world. In the classroom, I incorporated a lot of 'hands-on' activities, such as role-playing and group games. I created comprehensive lesson plans and can provide references for teaching, if necessary. I taught English in Spain for three months, as a private tutor, as well as substitute teacher in advanced-level classes. In my professional career, I have cross-trained my colleagues in several instances.
I like to be creative and I am very organized. If we work together, it would be great if you can provide me with as much information on your current level of the subject so we can make a "game plan" to insure your success. I would constantly be gathering information on your subject to make sure I understood the goals of your classes (if in school). Because of my penchant for language, I believe I can reword concepts in a way that's meaningful to each particular student. I describe myself as an easy-going, positive, effective teacher.
HobbiesI am not sure if I could survive without swimming and eating ice cream (year-round)! I love singing, and have performed in a handful of musicals and choirs. I like writing poetry, watching movies, and bike riding in the summer.
